WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT?

Who Do You Say He Is?

When you think of something that’s the best, how do you describe it?  What do you say about that person?  Maybe you say, you’re just not complete without your better half.  Your favorite food; do you say it taste so good?  Your favorite outfit makes you look so tight or together.  That song lifts you out of a bad mood or makes you so mellow.  That movie fills you with happiness.  That gift made your day.

You probably have lots of words to describe the things, people and events in your life.  But, have you started making a list of the things that Christ does for you?  If someone asked you why you love Him, what would you say?  If someone needed to know why you serve Him, what would you reply?  If someone asked you, just who Jesus is, when the spotlight turns your way, how would you respond?

There will come a time in each of your lives when you must be able to say with certainty who Jesus is.  You shouldn’t only rely on what is in the Bible, or what you’ve been taught in Sunday School, or what your friends or your family feel.  There will come a time when you will have to rely on what’s in your heart.  You’ll have to stand with only the words from your soul and say with boldness who Jesus is.

Jesus asked His disciples this very question.  He wanted to know who the crowds said he was.  They told Jesus he was called John the Baptist, Elijah a prophet.  Then Jesus asked them who they say He is.  Peter answered the Christ.  Peter may not have completed understood all that this meant, but he was able to say who Christ is.

In the days that Christ walked the earth, it was not easy to stand up for Christ.  Today, at least in small corner of the world, we can say boldly who Jesus is.  We can speak to each other and encourage one another to allow Jesus to rule in our lives.  We can tell someone who He is.  We don’t have to be afraid to believe.

Something you can do through 2003 is to come up with descriptions of who Christ is to you.  How does He make you feel?  What does He do for you?  See if you can come up with 12, one for each month of the year.  Just who do you say Jesus is?

TEEN TALK

The teens of East Washington Heights were asked who Jesus is:

One teen said that Jesus is the Messiah the One who is supposed to save the Israelites.  He said that to Him, Jesus Christ *is his leader and his salvation.  That means that He is a Person that He looks up to, honors and adores.

Lynne Wiggins says that Jesus is my hero, my friend.  He helps her get through things that she needs to get through.  He's always there when she needs Him.  When she was in her piano recital and was so nervous she thought she would be sick.  He gave her the confidence to get through it.

Lauren Wiggins said that Jesus is just like the song "God Is",   He is her all and all.  That means like another song, "He's All I Need to Get By.

SCRIPTURE

LUKE 9:18-20

18Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, "Who do the crowds say I am?"
19They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life."
20"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
Peter answered, "The Christ of God."
